Mattson 2
If you could soundtrack the jangle of the sea and the jazz of the surf, The Mattson 2 would most certainly be the composers. The identical twin’s deep telepathic kinship navigates colorful forms of beautiful weirdness and exotic landscapes of layered improvisation. The duo shimmers and shakes with the soaring modern wizardry of Jared Mattson's untamed, layered guitars and Jonathan's tribal jazz hard-bop drumming. They've toured Japan, Brazil, France, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Finland, The Netherlands, and the United States. Collaborations include Thomas Campbell, Ray Barbee, Tommy Guerrero, Cornelius, Chocolat & Akito Katayose, Money Mark (Beastie Boys), Toro Y Moi, and Tortoise members Johnny Herndon, John McEntire, and Jeff Parker.
On his new EP, Prom, songwriter Alexi Glickman (Sandy) wraps five melodic gems with layers of vintage tape echo and open tuned Stratocaster shimmer for a dreamy late summer slow dance. Recorded mostly live to a 1960s Scully 4-track in a house in the Sierra Foothills of Northern California, Prom centers around Sandy's guitar— an on old Fender, open tuned, echoplexed—reverberating in the wood panels of the forest dwelling turned recording studio.

Praise for Prom

“An intelligent, gently soothing piece of work, recalling the more blissed out, sunkissed moments of Big Star's catalogue” CLASH

“Imagine if The Beach Boys recorded Pet Sounds again after listening to the Polyvinyl back catalog and you get some idea of where this is rooted” New Noise Magazine

“A short, but sweet collection of five melodic gems” KCRW RADIO

Praise for Fourth Dementia

"Fourth's a blissful, reverb-soaked rush of feeling, all open chords and twilight madness." -SF Weekly

"Together, they build giant sized harmonies and resonating echoed guitar work that sounds like it was filtered through a glorious, sunny ’70s filter. Sometimes straight up breezy California surf rock, other times venturing into more hazy psyche-pop, imagine if The Beach Boys recorded Pet Sounds again after listening to the Polyvinyl back catalog and you get some idea of where this is rooted." -New Noise Magazine
