Goodnight, Texas
Goodnight, Texas
Goodnight is an unincorporated town in Texas' Armstrong County named after Charles Goodnight, who settled there in 1887. The small town is also the midpoint on I-40 between the respective residences of Avi Vinocur and Patrick Dyer Wolf. The two met in San Francisco and began recording some songs together before Wolf moved to North Carolina. Keeping in touch and meeting again on the east coast, then back on the west coast, they picked up more band members and recorded A Long Life of Living.
A Long Life of Living breathes fascination with the fading memory of generations in our country's patchwork of opportunity, immigration, and tragedy, and muses on our own era's place in the story. The debut LP is a gritty folk album that captures the vision of late nineteenth century blue-collar America with 11 wonderful songs and stories that Wolf and Vincour tell like seasoned vets.
Strange Vine
Strange Vine
Strange Vine's earthy, energetic music is a fusion of blues, psychedelic, and traditional American rock. It's a sound born of California's Sierra Nevada Mountains, from two men who were raised there. Ian Blesse plays drums and Rhodes piano (simultaneously), while Toby Cordova fleshes out the songs with a rotating arsenal of guitars (including one made from a cigar box). Both contribute vocals toward a rich, layered sound that's greater than the sum of its parts. In just a year's time, Strange Vine has already shared the stage with acts like The Black Keys, Cage The Elephant, Band Of Skulls, B.B. King, The Growlers, White Denim, Robin Trower, The Greenhornes, Pokey LaFarge and JEFF The Brotherhood.
