Encuentro del Canto Popular
Encuentro del Canto Popular
Featuring music by:
Grupo Raíz tribute by Marci Manríquez y Amig@s
Los Peludos
De Colores

Join us in celebrating 35 years of resistance through music as we showcase two exciting up-and-coming bands from San Francisco and Los Angeles as well three groups that were part of the very first Encuentro del Canto Popular back in 1982.

To mark this milestone, we are reuniting Latin American folk ensembles De Colores and Los Peludos; PLUS, Marci Manríquez will pay tribute to the life and work of her father Rafael Manriquez by assembling a talented group of musicians who will celebrate the music of Grupo Raíz. We will close out the celebration with the renowned SoCal Tropical Afro Latin combo, Quitapenas; as well as local powerhouse Soltrón, a 12-member band that blends Latin-jazz, Chicano rock, and samba batucada with strains of hip-hop and electronic music. The Encuentro will be held at The Chapel in San Francisco on December 11th and promises to be an event no one will want to miss.

Founded in 1982, the Encuentro del Canto Popular festival has featured artists from across Latin America, the Caribbean, and the United States. It has embraced and promoted nueva canción (new song), traditional music, and innovative Latin fusion that send a melodic message of peace and solidarity to the world. The Encuentro has provided a venue where acclaimed artists come together with emerging musicians to create cultural alchemy and inspiration.
